Commission doubles audiovisual cover of EU-related events

Brussels, 02/02/2009 (Agence Europe) - EbS+, a new channel from the service "Europe by Satellite” (EbS), was launched in January to provide journalists and other interested users throughout the world with more audiovisual content of matters related to the European Union. The vice-president of the Commission, Margot Wallström, said "doubling the capacity will increase transparency in the EU and reporting on EU issues". EbS provides the world's media with professional-quality audiovisual coverage of up-to-the-minute European Union news free of charge, and is also available to the public. More specifically, EbS offers direct broadcasting of European events, edited news via digital satellite and live webstreaming in up to 23 languages. It also provides archived material (memoclips), video stockshots, "infoclips" and video news releases (VNRs). EbS website: http: //ec.europa.eu/ebs. (O.L./trans.fl)
