MEPs support mandate for obtaining evidence

Brussels, 14/10/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, 13 October, the European Parliament's civil liberties committee (Libe) adopted the advisory report of Gérard Deprez (ADLE, Belgium) by 31 votes in favour, one against and one abstention. The report focuses on a draft framework decision to create a European mandate for obtaining proof and which is directly recognised and executed in other member states of the EU. MEPs are seeking to get rid of the territorial clause introduced by the Council to allow a member state to refuse a mandate for proof when infringements have been committed in any or part of its territory. Libe committee MEPs also postponed the vote on Ewa Klamt's report (EPP-ED, Germany) on the well-known “blue card” for highly qualified immigrants. The EP's employment committee, which is seeking full remit for this case, slowed down the procedure by its subsequent postponing of the vote to the Libe committee session at the beginning of November.
