19/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - According to provisional data provided by the European Audiovisual Observatory for 2007, European cinema continues to resist, despite a fall in cinema going. The report points out that: 1) there has been a moderate increase in the production of European films; the level of European production of European production levels for entirely national and majority co-productions increased by 1.1% year-on, thanks to input from France, Spain and Italy. A total of 921 feature films were produced in the 27 member states of the European Union in 2007, ten more than in 2006; 2) there was a slight decline in cinema attendance in the European Union at 919 million tickets sold, which represents a 1.3% decrease from the 932 million admissions registered in 2006; 3) there is strong demand for European films, which achieved a market share of 28.8% of total admissions in the European Union. This represents a small increase from an already strong 2006 market share of 28.6%, which is slightly above the 2006 figure. (I.L.)
