18/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - BusinessEurope President Ernest-Antoine Seillière hopes that the visit to China by Commission President José Manuel Barroso and a group of nine Commissioners (S. Dimas, A. Piebalgs, J.Potocnik, B.Ferrero-Waldner, P.Mandelson, L. Michel, V. Spidla, M. Kuneva and L. Kovacs) will help restart negotiations on the review of the EU-China partnership and cooperation agreement. In a letter to the Commission president on 17 April, Seillière welcomes the launch, during the visit, of the new EU-China High Level Economic and Trade Mechanism (see EUROPE 9643). The employers' organization also points out that the barriers and challenges encountered by European companies seeking to gain access to the Chinese market will have to be addressed more resolutely.
