07/03/2008 (Agence Europe) - EU Foreign Ministers will, on Monday 10 March, reaffirm the long-term support of the EU for the people and government of Afghanistan. According to the draft conclusions, the Council will support the approach agreed at the Joint Coordination and Monitoring Board in Tokyo on 5-6 February to prepare an international conference in Paris in June to review progress in implementation of the Afghanistan Compact. It will also welcome the progress of the EU police mission (EUPOL Afghanistan) which should be fully deployed at central, regional and provincial levels by the end of March. It expresses its willingness to consider further enhancement of EU engagement particularly in the field of police and the wider rule of law. (A.B.)
