Brussels, 07/03/2008 (Agence Europe) - The Vice President of the European Commission, Franco Frattini, visited Tirana on Friday to start dialogue with Albania with a view to bringing in a travel regime without a visa obligation. Since 1 January 2008, Albanian nationals have already enjoyed the advantages of a relaxed visa regime, which establishes uniform application and issuing procedures for many categories of citizens: students, sports people, those employed in the cultural sector, journalists, the people visiting members of their family in the Union, people requiring medical treatment and economic operators working with enterprises from the Union. This agreement provides for a reduction in the tariff for visas (35 euros instead of 60), an extension of their period of validity, and free visas for children and pensioners. (B.C.)
