Use of benzylpiperazine (BZP) to be controlled in the EU

Brussels, 04/03/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 3 March, the European Union decided that use of synthetic drug benzylpiperazine (BZP), a veterinary medicine, will be subject to control in all EU member states. The Council decided that because of its euphoric, stimulant properties, health risks and lack of medical benefits, use of BZP should be regulated, in respect of the precautionary principle, in line with the relatively high danger of using the substance.
