Member States support compulsory CO2 emissions reduction target but criticise devil in the detail

Brussels, 04/03/2008 (Agence Europe) - The EU's 27 member states have not yet managed to fully agree on the draft regulation to force EU car manufacturers to reduce the average CO2 emissions of new cars and vans to 130 grammes per kilometre (g/km) by 2012 through new engine technology (a further 10g reduction would also have to be made through other technical innovations like improving tyres, aircon systems, braking systems and the use of biofuel).
