04/03/2008 (Agence Europe) - The saga of the “Viking” affair drew to a close on Monday 3 March at the English Court of Appeal. Behind closed doors, the Finnish Seaman's Union (FSU) and the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) reached an agreement with the ferry company, Viking. The trade unions had threatened international collective action to prevent the ferry, Rosella, from being transferred from Finnish to Estonian registration, in order to reduce personnel costs. The agreement, whose details remain confidential, bring to an end all the disputes relating to this affair, which has been the subject of proceedings at the Finnish, English and European Courts (EUROPE 9562).
