04/03/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 4 March, EU finance ministers designated their candidate for succeeding Jean Lemierre at the helm of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). There was “overwhelming support” in favour of Thomas Mirrow, who is currently deputy finance minister of Germany, Andrej Bajuk told the press. Mr Mirrow “is the candidate Europe will put forward” during the annual EBRD shareholders' gathering on 18 and 19 May in Kiev, the Slovenian finance minister added after the Ecofin Council. The governor of the Czech central bank, Zdenek Tuma, the former Greek finance minister, Yannos Papantoniou, and the former governor of the central bank of Hungary, Gyorgy Suranyi, had also put their candidatures forward.
