Women having in vitro fertilisation treatment are not pregnant until the embryo is implanted

Brussels, 26/02/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 26 February, the Court of Justice ruled that a woman whose ovum was fertilised in vitro but who had not yet had it implanted in her womb, was not considered to be pregnant under Community law. However, she still enjoyed the same protection as pregnant women against any discrimination on the part of her employer (case C-506/06).
