18/12/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 12 December, a large majority of the European Parliament adopted a resolution whereby MEPs welcome results presented by the Commission on progress made in the drafting of a common reference framework (CRF). The draft CRF aims to make Community regulations more consistent, to make transposition and interpretation more uniform, and to narrow the gap between national legislations. MEPs mainly call on the Commission to extend the scope of the CRF beyond the consumer protection area. The CRF would not - at the present stage in reflection - have any binding effect but the Commission hopes to draw up a manual or “tool box” to be used by the EU legislator during review of the existing provisions or during preparation of new provisions in the field of contract law.
