Brussels, 18/12/2007 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has added ten agricultural and food products to the list of PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) and PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) products. Added to the list are: “Carne de Bisaro Transmontano” or “Carne de Porco Transmontano” (pigmeat - Portugal - PDO), “Szegedi szalami” or '”Szegedi téliszalámi” (meat-based product, salami - Hungary - PDO), “Pecorino di Filiano” (cheese - Italy - PDO), “Cereza del Jerte” (fruit, cherry - Spain - PDO), “Garbanzo de Fuentesaúco” (vegetable, chickpeas - Spain - PGI), “lenteja Pardina de Tierra de Campos” (vegetable, lentils - Spain - PGI), “Loukoumi Geroskipou” (confectionery - Cyprus - PGI), and “Skalicky trdelnik” (pastry - Slovakia - PGI). At the end of November, the following products were also added: - “Trebonsky kapr” (fish - Czech Republic - PGI) and “Salame Cremone” (meat-based product, salami - Italy - PGI). The ten new denominations are in addition to the list of around 800 products already protected by the legislation on protected geographical indications, names of origin and traditional specialties.
