Brussels, 07/12/2007 (Agence Europe) - Addressing the Advisory Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture (ACFA) on 6 December (see related article), European Fisheries Commissioner Joe Borg said he was confident “that a solution will be found to deal with products that are very sensitive, because of our preferential trade arrangements, for a large number of developing countries”. He acknowledged, however, that, at this stage, the outcome of Doha Round talks on special treatment for tuna products was “difficult to negotiate”. In July of this year, the European tinned tuna industry and ACP called on the EU to ensure that tinned tuna was treated as a sensitive product in Doha Round negotiations (see EUROPE 9470). (E.H.)
