19/11/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 19 November, the Council of Ministers of the EU adopted a decision on the acceptance by the European Community of the protocol amending the agreement on trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights (TRIPS) in the pharmaceutical sector. This protocol was established on 6 December 1995 and aims to find a swift solution to the possible difficulties WTO members could have (with insufficient or no manufacturing capacity in the pharmaceutical sector) by making use of compulsory licences to improve access to medicines in poor countries.
