19/11/2007 (Agence Europe) - The Council reaffirmed, on Monday 19 November, the “EU's total solidarity with the Colombian people and its full support for the Colombian government in its search for a negotiated solution to the internal armed conflict”. In their conclusions, which were adopted without discussion, the EU foreign affairs ministers welcomed the progress made, but urge the Colombian government to continue in its efforts. “While recognising what has been achieved, the Council also takes note that the implementation of justice and peace law is far from complete”, they say. The member states demand the rapid and effective implementation of all aspects of the law. They also urge the authorities to continue to adopt concrete measures to protect exposed individuals, such as defenders of human rights, witnesses, journalists and trade unionists, and to put an end to impunity.
