15/11/2007 (Agence Europe) - Adopting by show of hands under the consultation procedure, in Strasbourg on Wednesday 14 November, a report by Jean-Marie Cavada (ALDE, France) on the Council's decision defining l-benzylpiperazine (BZP) as a new synthetic mood-altering drug (narcotic) that must be monitored and outlawed, the European Parliament approved the Commission's text. Although believing that BZP should be monitored as a matter of precaution, the MEPs nevertheless agreed with Cavada on the weaknesses of the European Drug and Drug Addiction Monitoring Centre's risk assessment report which was used by the European Commission to formulate its proposal.
