Brussels, 31/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 30 October, the European Commission adopted the detailed proposal on the new partnership agreement in the fisheries sector, between the EU and Côte d'Ivoire. The compromise between the parties on this text was initialled on 5 April (EUROPE 9404). The new agreement, of a duration of six years starting from July 2007, will allow 25 purse seine vessels (15 from Spain and 10 from France) and 15 longliners (10 from Spain and 5 from Portugal) to land up to 7000 tonnes of fish of the tuna family. However, if Community vessels make the request, experimental fishing campaigns can be carried out. If they are conclusive, both sides may decide to allocate new fishing possibilities to Community vessels. The financial compensation to be paid by the EU to the Ivorian authorities will be €595,000 per annum. (L.C.)
