Brussels, 30/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - At the 25th quadripartite meeting between the EU and the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on 2 October, participants reaffirmed their pledge to implement a memorandum of understanding in order to boost cooperation on themes of common interest, including through common projects. Reference was made to synergies to be set up between Council of Europe activities and the EU's recently created Fundamental Rights Agency activities. The participants are eagerly awaiting the entry into force of the agreement setting out the framework for the cooperation, and they have reaffirmed that the EU's rapid adoption of the European Convention of Human Rights and Fundaments Rights would introduce far more coherence in human rights in Europe. The participants also considered the possibility of increasing informal dialogue in the next few months between the two organisations' institutions at the level of Council of Europe deputy ministers and the Council of the EU's COPS committee (Political and Security Committee), as stipulated in the memorandum of understanding. In order to facilitate cooperation still further, the participants agreed to look into the option of preparing an administrative and financial framework agreement between the two organisations to complete the memorandum of understanding, explains a joint press release.
