Brussels, 30/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - The EMPA (Euro-Med Parliamentary Assembly) committee for the promotion of the quality of life, human exchange and culture met on 29-30 October in Rome. It debated climate change repercussions and desertification. A report focusing on Mediterranean forestry policy and fires management was presented. Particular attention focused on the question of access to water, considered as a right for all. The parliamentary committee also examined the idea of setting up a Euro-Mediterranean Parliament for young people. The initiative was launched during the EMPA plenary meeting in Tunis in March this year. Parliamentarians are also expected to tackle the question of promoting democracy through the media, particularly satellite television, described as the “new bridge between societies and cultures in the Euro-Mediterranean region”.
