11/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 9 October, the European Parliament's committee on international trade postponed for the third consecutive time its vote on granting assent to an amendment of the international agreement on trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights (TRIPS). Parliament made its assent conditional upon a number of undertakings from the Council when developing countries use the flexibility provided for under the TRIPS agreement to produce or import generic substitute drugs for patented medicines. An informal meeting between the Parliament, Council and Commission will take place on 17 October to seek to respond to the Parliament's demands made in its resolution of 12 July. The vote may be on 22 October on the sidelines of the plenary session of the Parliament in Strasbourg. (oj)
