20/09/2007 (Agence Europe) - On 18 September, the EU Council of Ministers adopted a regulation putting in place a recovery plan for cod stocks in the Baltic Sea. The political agreement among member states was reached in June (see EUROPE 9444). Total Allowable Catches (TACs) have been set so as to reduce fishing mortality (rate at which fish are removed from the stock) by 10% per year. The number of fishing days allowed has been reduced by 10% per year. (lc)
