27/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission presented on 3 July a proposal for a regulation from the European Parliament and the Council amending annexes to Regulation 883/2004 on coordinating social security systems (COM(2007)376 final). The regulation simplifies the rules and procedures foreseen by Regulation (EC) No1408/71. It also recommends extending the scope of the regulation to the countries of the European Economic Area (EEA) and to Switzerland. Each of the annexes to the regulation contains provisions relating to the different member states, the Commission explains, going on to point out that the regulation provides for the content of Annexes II (provisions of bilateral agreements maintained in force on social security) and X (special cash payments of a non-contributory kind) to be determined by the date of application of the regulation. It is necessary to adjust the other annexes in order to take into account the requirements of member states that became members of the EU after the date when the regulation was adopted, namely after 29 April 2004.
