Laszlo Kovacs prepares to call for rationalisation of rules authorising application of reduced VAT rates in EU

Brussels, 03/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 5 July, Laszlo Kovacs, the taxation commissioner, is to present a long-awaited Commission communication on value added tax (VAT) rates other than normal VAT rates (see EUROPE 9448). He will communicate the results of the study on the impact that reduced VAT rates will have on the internal market. The study was commissioned by the Council early 2006 (see EUROPE 9123).
