03/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - The three permanent committees of the Euro-Latin America parliamentary assembly (EUROLAT) are to meet on 5, 6 and 7 July in Quito, the capital of Ecuador. The following items appear on the agenda: - Committee I: -political affairs, security and human rights: the state of EU/Latin America relations with a view to the Lima summit in May 2008, the energy offer as a political instrument and violence against children; - Committee II: -economic and commercial affairs: challenges and opportunities of economic globalisation, trade talks in the context of the Doha Round, EU-Andean Community negotiations (see EUROPE 9447); - and Committee III: -social affairs, environment and culture: sustainable development and environmental balance in EU-Latin American relations, and the fight against poverty and migrations. Jointly chaired by José Ignacio Salafranca Sanchez-Neyra (EPP-ED, Spain) and Jorge Pizarro, Chilean senator and president of the Latin American Parliament, EUROLAT is composed of 120 parliamentarians, half of whom are from the EP and half from parliaments of the region (Latin American Parliament, Andean Parliament, Central American Parliament, Mercusor Parliament) or joint EU-Mexico or EU-Chile parliamentary committees (see EUROPE 9432).
