Brussels, 27/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - The Polish non-attached MEP and MP for the League of Families, Maciej Giertych, the author of an anti-Semitic brochure containing the logo of the European Parliament, has appealed against the decision penalising him. This sanction, taken in compliance with Article 147 of Parliament's internal regulation, was decided on 14 March by EP President, Hans-Gert Pöttering from Germany (EUROPE 9386). Giertych wrote a letter on Monday in which he openly appeals to the members of the EP Bureau to “revoke the president's decision” because it does not respect the criteria of Article 9 of the internal regulation on which Mr Pöttering decided to impose this sanction. In an effort to justify himself, the Polish deputy affirms that no example was provided to prove that his publication included allegations of a xenophobic nature and even less so, examples that could be deemed to be in serious violation of fundamental rights.
