06/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - In an open letter published on 1 March, Italian GUE MEP Luisa Morgantini welcomes the launch, through the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) and the Sanofi-Aventis laboratory, of a new anti-malarial therapy, which combines artemisinin and amodiaquine, and costs €1 per treatment. To ensure that the world's poorest can have access to this treatment, the laboratory has not patented the medicine, thus allowing the poorest countries to produce and distribute it at cost price. (oj)
