THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/india/pakistan

19/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, the German presidency of the EU firmly condemned the murderous attack on the “Friendship Express” train between India and Pakistan. An explosion took place on Sunday night/Monday morning and killed around sixty people and injured many more. The presidency of the EU stated: “This act of mindless violence in the run-up to Pakistani Foreign Minister Kasuri's visit to India is clearly intended to disrupt the process of rapprochement between Pakistan and India”. The presidency of the EU “calls upon all parties in India and Pakistan to oppose further acts of violence and to resolvedly continue down the pat of dialogue chosen”. It also called for “those responsible to be swiftly identified and brought to justice”. (ab)
