21/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - CFSP High Representative, Javier Solana, condemned the assignation on 21 November of Pierre Gemayel, the Lebanese minister for industry. In a press release Solana affirmed, “My first thoughts are with his family, whose history is intimately linked to the history of Lebanon” (Pierre Gemayel was the son of Amine Gemayel, the Lebanese president 1982-88 and the grandson of Pierre Gemayel, the founder of the Kataeb, Lebanese falangist party: Editor's note). In his homage to the deceased on behalf of the EU and all those who want a sovereign and united Lebanon, Mr Solana declared that “Lebanon is once again paying a heavy tribute for wanting to live in peace and independence”.
