Brussels, 15/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - It was a message of encouragement to pursue peace talks that EU foreign ministers sent to Uganda. Ministers are happy with the results obtained so far in the talks taking place in Juba between the government and the Lord's Resistance Army, under the auspices of the government of Southern Sudan. The External Relations Council saw in this “a historic opportunity to bring to an end a protracted conflict”, and urged the government of Uganda to increase further the protection of its citizens, in particular of all the children affected by the armed conflict in the north of the country. It said it was ready to provide technical, logistical and financial assistance to the peace process and to support efforts to bring reconciliation and encourage the economic and social development of the country.
