09/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 14 November the Commission is expected to begin an infringement procedure against Italy for blocking the merger between Autostrate and Albertis. Franco Frattini, the European Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security declared to journalists on Thursday that “I think we'll launch this procedure next week”. Afraid that the Italian draft legal decree on motorway concessions would distort the fee movement of capital in the EU, his counterpart in charge of the internal market indicated on Monday that he intended to launch such a procedure soon. A prospect that is still current because the competition chapter in the dossier is back, since the announcement of the suppression of obstacles to the merger (EUROPE 9302). (ab)
