German and French EPP-ED members criticise Commission report, Socialists call for patience and Greens say commitments should be respected

Brussels, 09/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - MEPs were divided over the European Commission's report on Turkey (EUROPE 9302 on the report and comments by MEPs Eurlings and Lagendijk).

At the EPP-ED group, the reaction of German MEPs was very negative. Elmar Brok (CDU), president of the foreign affairs committee has criticised the European Commission for “hiding behind the Council” instead of playing an active and decisive role.
