New outbreaks of bluetongue disease

Brussels, 09/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - Further outbreaks of bluetongue (a sheep disease) in North-Rhine Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany, and in Denekamp in the Netherlands, led the EU's Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health to decide on special measures on 8 November because despite cold weather (which may kill the insect that spread the virus), the disease is continuing to spread, with over 1600 outbreaks confirmed since the first case was reported in the...
