Parliament calls for better application of posting of workers directive

Strasbourg, 27/10/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 26 October, the European ¨Parliament adopted - by 295 votes to 72, with 20 abstentions - the own initiative report by German Green MEP Elisabeth Schroedter and called for better application of directive 96/71/EC on the posting of workers. Parliament hopes that binding corrective measures to ensure proper application of the directive will be taken. It calls on the Commission to put forward a draft directive on requirements for crews on vessels providing regular passenger and transport services between Member States. It notes that one of the main practical difficulties for correct implementation of the directive on posting of workers is the issue of moonlighting and believes better coordination between Member States and improved notification procedures are essential to put the problem right. It calls for exchanges between Member States' labour inspection services to be encouraged so that bogus self-employed persons can be tracked down jointly, notably through exchange of information.
