10/10/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament's transport committee moved to a debate on Tuesday 10 October on the Council's common position on the draft directive for introducing a single driver's licence on Community territory. The Council obtained a political agreement on this proposal in March 2006, previously negotiated with Parliament to enable its adoption in second reading (EUROPE 9161). During the debate, several MEPs expressed their dissatisfaction with certain provisions in the compromise (notably on mopeds or for the elderly). However, in the rapporteur's entourage on the dossier, the Belgian Christian Democrat Mathieu Grosch said that they were confident that the compromise would be adopted as expected. The committee vote will be in November and in plenary session, in December. (dt)
