Brussels, 10/10/2006 (Agence Europe) - As it had promised to do when publishing its White Paper on transparency in May, the European Commission has decided to publish, from 10 October, information on the beneficiaries of Community funds that come under its direct and centralised management. EU subsidies in the field of research are mainly concerned. Information on public procurement is also published. The Commission recalls that divulging information on the recipients of European funding which comes under shared management (Common Agricultural and Fisheries Policy, Structural Funds, Cohesion Funds and European Fund for Refugees, which annually account for 76% of Community funding) is left up to the discretion of the Member States. The level of information made public differs considerably from one country to the next, it states. Information on the beneficiaries of agricultural funds is accessible to the public in eleven Member States (Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, France, Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal, United Kingdom, Slovenia and Sweden).
