13/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - Pervenche Berès, president of the economic and monetary committee of the EP, has written to Jean-Claude Juncker to congratulate him on being re-elected President of the Eurogroup (EUROPE 9261) (our translation throughout). "Despite the absence of a legal base, under your authority, Eurogroup has, for nearly 2 years, contributed to the idea of economic governance of the euro zone", she wrote, adding: "rest assured of the support of the European Parliament in your efforts to make progress in both the coordination of national budgetary policies and the coordination of the latter with the monetary policy. On the former, a better-coordinated establishment of the national budgets could not meet with anything other than unreserved support. On the latter point, stepping up dialogue with the ECB is greatly desirable in order to achieve a quality relationship between the budgetary pole and the monetary pole, as is the case with large economies".
