Eurochambres wants simplified EU Vocational Education and Training system

Brussels, 07/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Eurochambres, has welcomed recent progress in establishing an EU Vocational Education and Training system, VET, to boost transparency when comparing different countries' education and training systems (see EUROPE 9259). Eurochambres is delighted that the system focusses on skills learning rather than the way the skills are actually learnt, adding that 'it is of utmost importance that competences and experience are taken into account as much as formal education to make VET more attractive.' In order to be effective, VET has to be easy to use and match the reality of life at work as much as possible, but this is not yet the case, regrets Eurochambres. In order to meet this aim, it recommends a reduction in the eight levels identified by the Commission. On Tuesday, the European Commission adopted a recommendation on VET, which is expected to be adopted by the Council and Parliament by the end of next year.
