06/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Committee for the Prevention of Torture and inhumane or degrading treatment (CPT) of the Council of Europe published a report on 6 September on its visit to Turkey in December 2005, as well as the Turkish government's response (http: //http://www.cpt.coe.int ). In a press release, the Committee points out that it has: - assessed the day-to-day function of the legal guarantees currently in force against ill treatment; - examined developments in the type F prisons (high security), in particular concerning persons carrying out an aggravated sentence of life imprisonment; - and examined procedures for the administration of electroconvulsvive therapy in psychiatric establishments.
