04/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - Werner Langen MEP (CDU) has angrily pointed out that the European Commissioner for Competition Neelie Kroes has still not taken a decision on the De Beers diamond affair, despite the fact that since 2003, she had received complaints on its practices, particularly from the Belgian Association of Cut Diamond Importers and Exporters and the Edelsteinbörse Idar-Oberstein in Rhineland Palatinate. The latter has criticised the sector giant of having deliberately provided diamond merchants with fewer diamonds than necessary. In 2004, the Commission organised a significant probe into the market of more than one hundred interested parties to verify whether the criticism was warranted, pointed out the MEP.
