Brussels, 04/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - With Friday's deadline set by Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes past, the Polish authorities have still to send their plans for restructuring the shipyards at Gdynia, Gdansk and Szczecin, her spokesman said on Monday. The Polish authorities have sent a letter assuring the Commission that they were finalising restructuring plans, he said, but there was still no sign of the awaited documents supporting the aid provided by central and local authorities. The Commission, which began its investigation in June 2005 (see EUROPE 8959), had expected to receive the plans by the end of June 2006. If no credible information is received, demonstrating the viability of the companies in question, the aid will be declared illegal, the spokesman explained last week, saying that the Commission hoped to give its decision before the end of the year. He said once again on Monday that the examination of the documents, once they are received, could take “several weeks”.
