06/07/2006 (Agence Europe) - Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn welcomed the report by the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) stating that the elections were generally well conducted in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) on 5 July. He nonetheless regretted “some incidents” in several municipalities “during the electoral campaign and on the voting day”, and called for inquiries to be made. “It is now important that a new government is formed quickly so that the country can step up its efforts on the reform agenda to meet the Copenhagen criteria”, Mr Rehn added.
