Brussels, 08/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - Criminal records from France, Germany, Spain and Belgium will now be linked through an electronic interconnection system. The system, which has, in fact, been in operation since 31 March, was officially unveiled in Bonn on 6 June, with Justice Ministers from the countries concerned present. The aim of the interconnection is to give legal authorities of the four countries new tools to improve the exchange of information on the previous record of persons charged or found guilty. On the technical side, exchanges between national records are made via the secure communications network TESTA (Trans-European Service for Telematics between Administrations), which already exists and is used to link the various administrations and European Member States. The Grand Duchy of Luxemburg is due to join the exchange network soon and the Czech Republic could also join in 2007.
