08/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - The leader of the Party of European Socialists (PES), MEP Poul Nyrup Rasmussen has called for the immediate release of all political prisoners in Belarus and the reinstatement of all those who lost their jobs or were expelled from university for having demonstrated peacefully against the Lukashenko regime. According to a press release, the letter containing the call was also signed by other members of the European Socialist and Social Democratic family, such as Swedish Development Minister Carim Jamtin, leader of the Dutch Labour Party Michiel van Hulten, Irish Labour Party Spokesman on Europe Ruairi Quinn, former Greek Minister and Commissioner Vasso Papandreou and former French Defence Minister Alain Richard.
