02/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the EP adopted the report by Livia Jaroka (EPP-ED) of Hungary on the situation of Roma women in the EU. MEPs call upon public authorities throughout the Union to carry out an inquiry as soon as possible on the allegations of severe human rights violations against Roma women, and to rapidly bring penalties against those responsible with adequate compensation for the victims. The EP also calls on the Commission to support, via its many relevant financial mechanisms, the activities relating to Roma women and to re-examine the rules for attribution of every kind of financing in order to ensure specific provisions include Roma women.
