Parliament hopes temporary aid mechanism to Palestinians will be rapidly implemented and supports President Abbas' initiative

Brussels, 01/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption in Brussels on Thursday 1 June of a joint resolution from six political groups (EPP-ED, PES, ALDE ,Greens/EFA, GUE/NGL and UEN) on the humanitarian, economic and financial crisis in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, the European Parliament (with 326 votes to 247 and 43 abstentions) calls on the Council and Commission to strengthen their initiatives to come to the assistance of the Palestinian people.
