741 cases of H5N1 in wild birds detected in EU

Brussels, 01/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has published the results of the surveillance programme for avian influenza in wild birds carried out by Member States. The extensive epidemiological data, which shows an improvement in the situation in the EU over the past few weeks, were presented at the joint FAO (UN Food and Agriculture Organisation)/OIE (World Organisation for Animal Health) international scientific conference on avian influenza in Rome on 31 May.
