23/05/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Council of European Municipalities and Regions has published three studies (http://www.ccre-cemr.org ): 1) Controlling, Cajoling or Co-operating -Central Governments' Policy Approaches towards Local Government on the issues of Performance and Cost-effectiveness: this study focuses on the situation in European countries and examines how far central government supervises, inspects and controls local and regional authorities in relation to issues such as cost-effectiveness and improving quality and performance; 2) The Impact of Demographic Change on Local and Regional Government: the study provides an insight into challenges facing municipalities in the Czech Republic, Finland, German and Spain in terms of demographic changes; 3) Social Dialogue in Local and Regional Government in the New Member States and Candidate Countries: the goal of this study is to help strengthen dialogue between employers and unions in the local and regional sector in these countries.
