Maria Rauch-Kallat stresses role of social partners in setting wage levels - Vladimir Spidla announces communication on issue of gap between men's and women's pay

Brussels, 23/05/2006 (Agence Europe) - The wage gap between men and women remains a concern in the EU25. Women earn on average 15% less than men, something that is unacceptable both tot the Commission and to the Austrian Presidency. To study how to reduce this gap, the Austrian Presidency held a conference in Brussels on 22 May at which MEPs, representatives from governments and the European institutions and experts took part.
