23/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - The members of the Palestinian parliament who were due to take part in the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Session (EMPA) session next Sunday and Monday may face visa problems as they seek to enter Belgium. The President of the Parliamentary delegation for cooperation with the Palestinian Legislative Council said as much on Thursday during a hearing with the Palestinian representative in Brussels Leila Chahid. The information was confirmed by the staff of the EU High Representative for the CFSP Javier Solana. Belgium initially refused to grant the visas but is currently consulting the Council of the EU on an (ad hoc) lifting of the ban on Hamas, which features on the EU's list of terrorist organisations. According to Mrs Chahid, six visa applications had been lodged.
